Do what you are best at – and let others do the same

I see many people doing the mistake of doing things for their new business themselves instead of having someone professional to do it. Often this is due to the belief that they can’t afford to have an expert do it, but I believe quite the opposite – you can’t afford not to.

Many new business owners believe that services like wix.com, squarespace etc. are ideal for them to build there new website in, as it is so cheap and doesn’t require coding knowledge or design skills, yet mostly they can never seem to get a result they are really satisfied with. Then spend months making their website, coming up with text, finding the right images, figuring out how to use the system and get past some of the limitations within.

Then… 3 months later they realise they can’t achieve what they needed, and contacts a professional to help them out and says something like: “I don’t have a huge budget to do this, and I have already worked 3 months on this, so it has to be cheap – and please if you could do it fast, cause I really want to start sharing links to it..”

Let’s put this into perspective: You just spend the first 3 months in your new business learning and struggling to build a new website, that you aren’t actually satisfied with and have been holding you back from doing any actual work and getting new clients – correct? You are 3 months into your business and already now you are falling behind.

Firstly: If you can’t afford a website now – then wait. You are already 3 months late with it, instead you should have focused on building your portfolio of clients and 3 months later (when you had earned some more money) reached out to a professional to get a quote. Now… Depending on the type of agency you contact, the price will vary, but let’s say you get a quote saying like 5.000 €. This may seem like an great amount of money, but comparing it to 3 months of you not working and getting new clients, I am sure it is worth it.
