Avoid self-diagnosing business problems

Self-diagnosing can be difficult and sometimes harmful to your business and pocket, and 10.000 euros spent on a new website may as well have been better spent on an evaluation of your brand strategy, marketing planning and so on.

Just because you have heard that a good looking website is important, it doesn’t mean it is what you need in order to increase traffic. If you have 100 visits weekly, a new layout and newsletter popups will not help you increase that number – you would need to start market your website better, making sure to use backlinking and include the links in your social media posts.

This also goes for other elements in your business. Don’t get the idea that a new logo design will help you get more customers or that a blue flyer is what you need to promote your new product.

So don’t go in to an agency with the idea that you already know what needs to be done to solve the business problems. Sit down with someone who knows about branding and business design, and inform them about your goals and the current problems you are facing. They know a lot more about how to tackle certain issues and invest your budget smarter.

It would be the same if I walk in to the Doctor and say “Hi Doc., I can’t hear on my left ear, and haven’t been able to digest food properly the past month, so I would need some Acetaminophen to take the edge off, and I should be good to go”.. A real doctor would never agree to this and I would also like to take the opportunity to raise a red flag here. If you contact a consultancy to help you develop your business, and you present your own diagnose and suggestion to the solution, and they simply agree and issue you are quote – I wouldn’t use them. Then they are not a consultancy – they are simply a service provider and order taker. Make sure to get the help you need. Your business deserves it.
